Project Narrative
The spatial organisation is anchored by a dramatic double-height central courtyard that acts as the heart of the house. Living spaces are arranged around this void, each maintaining visual and physical connections to both the courtyard and landscaped gardens at the front and rear. This dual orientation allows natural light, ventilation, and greenery to permeate the interiors, dissolving conventional indoor–outdoor boundaries. Complementing this strategy is a linear inner light well that channels daylight into the basement lounge, ensuring all levels of the house remain naturally illuminated and spatially connected.
The architectural composition follows a clear hierarchy of public and private zones. While the ground floor accommodates shared family spaces, private bedrooms are distributed across the first and second floors. Each upper-level functions almost as an independent unit, complete with its own lounge and outdoor deck. As the structure rises, the built mass recedes to form generous terraces, creating a stepped profile that enhances privacy while framing views of foliage and sky.
Deep cantilevered roofs extend over these terraces, offering solar protection and thermal comfort while reinforcing the villa’s sculptural expression. These overhangs modulate sunlight, reduce heat gain, and lend rhythm to the façade, making climate responsiveness an integral part of the architectural language rather than an afterthought.
Materiality plays a central role in defining the home’s tactile and visual character. A restrained palette of grey stone and warm timber grounds the architecture within its natural surroundings, while layered façades, deep recesses, and textured surfaces mitigate the impact of Delhi’s climate. Interiors continue this language through light grey ash veneer, establishing visual continuity across spaces. On the principal deck, rust-toned leather seating echoes the earthy hues of the landscape, reinforcing a sense of warmth and comfort.
Art and craftsmanship are woven seamlessly into the spatial narrative. The entry sequence introduces curated works, including a canvas by Abhijit Pathak and a recycled-material bench by Bandana Jain. The staircase becomes an evolving gallery, transitioning from Pradeep’s monochromatic sculpture to Deena Pindoria’s ajrakh block prints, and culminating in Ashish Shah’s nazar pattu. These pieces enrich circulation spaces, transforming movement into an experiential journey.
Together, architecture, landscape, and art converge to create a home that is both contemporary and rooted. Courtyards, terraces, and light-filled interiors foster connection with nature and daily rituals, resulting in a refined yet deeply contextual domestic environment.
