The Triplex House

Designed by Vpa architects | Principal Designer: Naiya v. patel

Project Narrative

Narrating verticality through luxury and comfort, this triplex penthouse redefines elevated living for three nuclear families residing under one roof. Conceived as an interplay of identity, materiality, and interaction, the home unfolds in a continuous dialogue across its three floors. The extended family- grandparents and two brothers with their respective families- envisioned a space that balances differing ideals: formality and comfort, permanence and flexibility, rigor and peace. The design integrates these layered aspirations into a fluid yet distinctive spatial experience.

At the 19th floor, a bold entrance marked by an edgy red bench and monochrome artwork establishes a dramatic threshold. Mirror paneling amplifies light and depth, introducing this level as the social heart of the home. Designed for hosting, it features a formal living area and an open lounge that spills onto a kota stone-finished terrace. Lightweight, movable furniture enables flexible arrangements for gatherings, intimate conversations, or leisurely evenings. Home to the grandparents, this floor embodies quiet sophistication, shaped by their Jain traditions and understated aesthetic. A serene temple framed in satvario marble anchors the spiritual core. Their bedroom interprets modern French classicism through mature textiles, solid wood furniture, and subtle brass inlays, while a guest suite extends the family’s welcoming ethos.

Descending to the 18th floor, a sculptural staircase wrapped in micro-cement and wood leads into a vibrant, personality-driven interior. Whimsical patterns, bold color-blocking, and immersive walls define this dynamic level. An inky blue pool table and a dramatic 7’x7’ artwork establish a theatrical living zone, complemented by acoustic panels designed for lively gatherings. The palette transitions from moody orange-white seating to a striking black-and-white dining space. Bedrooms here reflect individuality: a fold-out guest room doubling as an activity zone, a playful daughter’s day room with climbers and floating cloud lights, and a tactile master suite blending leather, glass, and brass detailing.

The 17th floor reveals a lit-tree sculpture anchoring the stair shaft, introducing a softer, modern bohemian character. The living area flows into a relaxed TV lounge layered with ivory seating and textured textiles. Bedrooms range from a free-form kids’ playroom to a shared twin bedroom in calming neutrals, and a master suite defined by muted olive wood paneling.

Throughout, material transitions- from stone and mirror to wood and micro-cement- articulate shifts in mood and function. Custom furniture and sculptural lighting pieces enhance interaction and memory-making. This home does not merely stack floors; it layers lives, crafting a vertical tapestry where individuality and unity coexist gracefully.
