BGLAM Hair & Wig Salon

Designed by Studio kaleidospace | Principal Designer: Nirali bathia & daphne d’mello

Project Narrative

Set within the vibrant neighbourhood of Indiranagar, BGLAM is conceived as a boutique hair and wig salon that offers respite from the city’s relentless pace. Designed by Studio Kaleidospace, the interior reimagines the conventional salon typology as an immersive spatial experience- where sculptural geometry, tactile materials and fluid planning work in quiet harmony. Rather than foregrounding overt glamour, the design allows architecture, light and material to shape subtle moments of care and transformation.

The narrative begins at the threshold. A hand-laid Jaisalmer yellow wire-cut brick plinth defines the reception zone, extending from the entrance deep into the interior. This curved intervention shifts seamlessly from seating bench to display ledge, functioning simultaneously as furniture and spatial anchor. Laid in horizontal coursing, the brick introduces warmth and gravitas, grounding the otherwise contemporary palette. A jute webbing backrest stretched within a blackened steel frame adds texture, while deep forest green upholstery and slender powder-coated steel legs lend refinement. The cylindrical reception desk echoes the curvature of the service pods beyond, reinforcing a visual continuity that ties the plan together.

Further inside, another brick-clad curved element emerges- not quite wall, not quite furniture, but a sculptural guide shaping circulation. The tactile presence of brick establishes material honesty as a central theme, encouraging touch and sensory engagement alongside visual appreciation.

The salon unfolds as a sequence of flowing zones rather than rigidly enclosed rooms. At its heart are three semi-enclosed service pods formed by curved partitions clad in grooved veneer. Fabricated from bent plywood, these partitions soften spatial boundaries and introduce rhythmic continuity across the plan. Their curvature ensures privacy without complete isolation, allowing clients to feel cocooned yet visually connected to the larger space.

Each pod operates as a micro-environment. Custom curved mirrors mirror the architectural language while visually expanding the interior. Seating and workstations are positioned with ergonomic precision, ensuring client comfort and stylist efficiency. Function is seamlessly integrated, allowing the design to remain calm and understated rather than theatrically expressive.

Material transitions are subtle yet deliberate. Terrazzo flooring unifies the common areas, offering a neutral and cohesive base. Within the pods, yellow-toned tiles gently demarcate zones, introducing warmth without disrupting continuity. Recurring brick and veneer surfaces slow the spatial experience, reinforcing tactile richness and coherence.

Lighting acts as an architectural layer in itself. Soft ambient illumination washes the interiors evenly, while integrated task lighting within curved surfaces ensures clarity without glare. Sculptural pendant fixtures punctuate the ceiling plane, adding scale and accentuating the salon’s boutique sensibility.
